Q1 2025: The Last Dance for Liquid Governance on Folks Finance
The final Governance Period has come with a unique opportunity to maximize rewards from both Governance and Staking incentives.
Here’s everything you need to know to prepare your strategy for G14.
gALGO: The Governance Super-Tool
gALGO is Folks’ Governance solution, usable across the Algorand ecosystem while your ALGO collects rewards. It remains the most widely-adopted Liquid Staking product in the Algorand DeFi market.
In Q1 2025, Algorand Node Runners can participate in Consensus with gALGO and earn from Governance and Consensus in congruence. In order to do so:
- You must have at least 30,000 ALGO committed
- You must have less than 70,000,000 ALGO committed (Folks recommends a maximum 65,000,000 to consider future rewards you will earn).
- You must re-register online once the official consensus rewards are live in order to pay the registration fee of 2 ALGO
- Consensus rewards will be automatically transferred to the user at the end of the governance period, you cannot claim them earlier.

Staking Rewards and xALGO: A New Chapter for Algorand
Following G14, Algorand Governance will conclude and be replaced by Algorand Consensus Rewards. In preparation, the Folks team has already built a new Liquid Staking product, xALGO, to make the transition as effortless as possible.
At the end of G14, gALGO minters will be able to convert to xALGO in one-click. Once converted, xALGO will accrue passive yield perpetually — no periodic recommitments.
Some of the key advantages of xALGO:
- Instant Liquidity: The value of your staked ALGO remains available for use via xALGO, giving you flexibility and control over your portfolio.
- Perpetual Yield: Once you’ve staked with xALGO, there’s no need to manually restake or recommit. Your yield will continue to accumulate automatically.

Important Dates for Period 14:
- Period Starts: January 1st, 2025
- gALGO Redemption Window: Opens January 1st, 2025. Closes January 7th, 2025 at 15:00 UTC.
- If you hold gALGO, and would like to redeem it for ALGO, this is the timeframe to do so.
- You must redeem your gALGO and recommit if you want to collect Governance Rewards on that ALGO during G14.
- gALGO Commitment Window: Opens January 7th, 2024. Closes January 14, 2025 at 16:00 UTC.
- To collect Governance Rewards for G14, you must commit ALGO during this window in order to mint gALGO.
- Pre-minted gALGO will be distributed to your wallet when this window opens.
- Voting Opens: February 27th, 2025
- Period Ends: March 31st, 2025
- Reward Distribution: By April 7th, 2025.
If you haven’t yet redeemed your gALGO from the previous Governance period, make sure to do so before January 7th. After that, you’ll be able to commit to Period 14 through the Liquid Governance portal until January 14th, with your ALGO collecting rewards while keeping your liquidity flexible.
